Solicitors clerk

Peter YoungPeter was born in Reading in 1938. He left school in 1954 aged 16, with 4 G.C.E. passes. His first job was as a solicitors clerk for which he was paid £3 -10 shillings per week. Smart dress, a collar and tie, was required.

Although it wasn’t necessary, Peter went to night school to learn copy typing and was there for 2 years.

He had no real ambition, as National Service was pending. Peter was demobbed after two years and then went to work in a wholesale chemist.

He was working in accounts for a further 2 years whilst waiting to join the police force. Then in 1959 he joined the Bournemouth Borough Police Force and stayed for 30 years until pensionable age.

Peter settled in Bournemouth having done his National Service in the RAF at Sopley. He loved the area and also met his wife locally. Peter enjoyed his work in the Police Force most of all.
